{"id":487,"date":"2025-04-18T11:15:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T11:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/poderemercado.com.br\/?p=487"},"modified":"2025-04-18T01:20:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T01:20:13","slug":"a-inflacao-e-o-imposto-que-ninguem-votou-mas-todo-mundo-paga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poderemercado.com.br\/en\/a-inflacao-e-o-imposto-que-ninguem-votou-mas-todo-mundo-paga\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflation is the tax that nobody voted for \u2014 but everyone pays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the government announces that inflation is \u201cunder control\u201d, do you feel it in your pocket?<br>Are prices stable?<br>Has the rent stopped going up?<br>Has the shopping cart become lighter or more expensive?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter what the technicians say \u2014 <strong>inflation is a silent form of institutionalized theft<\/strong>.<br>And the <strong>tax you pay every day<\/strong>, even without having approved anything.<br>And the most perverse: <strong>without knowing where the money went.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The myth of \u201cnatural\u201d inflation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people believe that inflation is \u201cwhen everything gets more expensive\u201d.<br>But that is just the consequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Real inflation begins when the government spends more than it collects \u2014 and covers the difference by issuing money or debt.<\/strong><br>The State increases the monetary base, directly or indirectly, and puts more money into the economy.<br>Result: <strong>there is more money chasing the same goods<\/strong>.<br>Prices go up. Your purchasing power melts.<br>And the politicians pretend to be surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mises summed it up neatly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIncreasing the quantity of money does not create wealth. It merely redistributes purchasing power \u2014 from the last to the first.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who profits from inflation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Contrary to what many people think, inflation <strong>does not reach everyone equally<\/strong>.<br>It benefits whoever <strong>receive the new money first<\/strong> \u2014 large banks, government-linked companies, public sector.<br>These agents are able to buy <strong>before<\/strong> that prices go up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the common citizen, the wage earner, the entrepreneur who works to keep his accounts up to date, <strong>receives last<\/strong> \u2014 with everything more expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mechanism is known as <strong>Cantillon effect<\/strong>: a forced redistribution of wealth, without transparency, without debate, <strong>no vote<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A State that spends and lies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Brazil, the government insists on saying that it controls inflation with \u201cresponsible fiscal policies\u201d.<br>But look what&#039;s behind the curtain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Loss-making state-owned companies continue to be supported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spending on public wages and subsidies increases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The spending cap has been dismantled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Central Bank is under pressure to artificially lower interest rates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the IPCA may even give in a little on the charts \u2014 <strong>but rice, rent, meat and medicine keep going up<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inflation is not a technical problem.<br><strong>It is a political decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inflation is functional for the State<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do governments love inflation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it is the <strong>the only tax that can be charged without you noticing.<\/strong><br>You don&#039;t see the invoice.<br>You don&#039;t receive a ticket.<br>But every month, your salary buys less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rothbard wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cInflation is a subtle form of confiscation. The government can tax people without raising taxes \u2014 it just destroys their currency.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The cycle of dependency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When money loses value, the citizen loses autonomy.<br>He depends more on the government, seeks more \u201caid\u201d, accepts more intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inflation <strong>It is not just an economic phenomenon \u2014 it is an instrument of domination.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the cruelest thing is that the guilty ones themselves pose as heroes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cWe will create a new program to combat poverty.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cWe will readjust the minimum wage.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cWe will expand subsidies.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But it was the government itself that impoverished you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can you do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Understand<\/strong> that inflation is not neutral.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reject narratives<\/strong> who blame the market, businessmen, supermarkets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Look for protective assets<\/strong>: hard currencies, commodities, real assets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Demand fiscal responsibility<\/strong> \u2014 and real autonomy for the Central Bank.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Report the money scam.<\/strong> A weak currency is a symptom of a government that spends too much.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udded Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The government doesn&#039;t need to raise taxes to take your income.<br>He just needs to spend more, issue more and lie better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you work, the real loses value.<br>While you save, the State prints.<br>And while you try to understand what&#039;s going on, the same old guys keep profiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inflation is not an accident.
