Absurd!\u201d<br>\u201cWhy don\u2019t they charge a price adapted to our reality?\u201d<br>\u201cThis company is greedy!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The new victim of popular indignation was Nintendo.<br>In April 2025, the company announced that <em>Mario Kart World<\/em> will cost <strong>R$ 499.90<\/strong> in Brazil \u2014 while in the United States the price will be <strong>US$ 80<\/strong> (<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tecmundo.com.br\/voxel\/501225-preco-oficial-de-mario-kart-world-no-brasil-sera-de-r-500-veja-valores-dos-jogos-de-switch-2.htm\">source: Tecmundo\/Voxel<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bundle of <strong>Switch 2<\/strong> with the game will come out by <strong>R$ 4,799.90<\/strong>. And the console alone will cost <strong>R$ 4,499.90<\/strong> \u2014 more expensive than a PlayStation 5 in the country, as pointed out by <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/g1.globo.com\/economia\/noticia\/2025\/01\/14\/brasil-tem-um-dos-maiores-deficits-nominais-do-mundo-e-alta-da-divida-deve-se-intensificar-diz-btg.ghtml\">G1<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The problem isn&#039;t Nintendo. It&#039;s the real thing.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The math is simple: if $80 equals R$500, the problem isn&#039;t the price set by the company \u2014 <strong>is in the value of your currency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the reason for this is not in the hands of Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony. It&#039;s in the hands of <strong>Brazilian government<\/strong>, which you finance with taxes, tolerate with bureaucracy and accept with inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making a Mario Kart World costs practically the same in Japan, the US, or Brazil. What&#039;s the difference?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disproportionate import taxes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tax burden embedded in each stage of the chain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absurd customs and regulatory costs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exchange rate instability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Devaluation of the real caused by fiscal deficits and domestic inflation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The company charges what it needs to cover its <strong>costs, margins and risks<\/strong>.<br>It is not obliged to compensate for Brazil&#039;s chronic inefficiency \u2014 <strong>The Brazilian State should be responsible for this<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The illusion of the \u201cfair price\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people believe that it would be \u201cfair\u201d for multinationals to adapt their prices to the \u201cBrazilian reality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this reverses the moral and economic logic: <strong>It&#039;s not the market that should adapt to inefficient governments. It&#039;s governments that should stop destroying their citizens&#039; purchasing power.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cBrazil cost\u201d \u2014 this mix of taxes, obstacles, and volatility \u2014 is not the fault of Mario, Donkey Kong, or Zelda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the fault of a fat, wasteful, corrupt state that is incapable of guaranteeing monetary stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, it&#039;s always easier to attack the businessman\u2014who fulfills contracts and delivers products\u2014than to hold those who control the currency and public finances accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The cheap real is the symptom.
