Brazil is called \u201cneoliberal,\u201d accused of living under a savage capitalism, as if the free market governed the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing could be further from the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What we have in Brazil is a system <strong>statist, interventionist and notary<\/strong>, where the State:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>defines who can produce (with licenses, agencies and authorizations);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>determines who can prosper (with taxes, tariffs and selective favors);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>chooses winners (via subsidies, exemptions and public contracts).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not capitalism.<br>That&#039;s it <strong>crony capitalism<\/strong> \u2014 when success depends more on proximity to power than on efficiency, innovation or merit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While political discourse accuses the market of being savage, the Brazilian business environment is suffocated by a public machine that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>rate up to the entrepreneur&#039;s breathing space;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>protects inefficient sectors with tariffs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>discourages investment with legal and tax uncertainty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cReal capitalism is when the State does not protect the market \u2014 it protects the right to participate in it.\u201d<br>\u2013 Elian Verres<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Small entrepreneurs struggle to issue invoices.<br>The informal worker is persecuted.<br>The middle class is crushed by a system that taxes consumption but rewards state waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, no.<br>Brazil is not a capitalist country.<br>It&#039;s a country <strong>hostage of a State that fears economic freedom.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udce3 <strong>Final call to the reader:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Do you want to know why the discourse of \u201csocial justice\u201d serves to mask state control?<br>Keep following the <em>Power &amp; Market<\/em> and get ready for the next series:<br><em>The New Era of Economic Regression: PT, Lula and Haddad against the Free Market.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apesar do discurso popular, o Brasil est\u00e1 longe de ser um pa\u00eds capitalista.
